it_ITLes Paul PAF upgrade e Piezo Mod video tutorial:
I present to you the major overhaul of my EKO Les Paul 80′ whose electronics no longer worked. The update involved replacing the pickups, potentiometers, switch, jack socket and all the wiring with an Epiphone Probucker kit with quick connectors, therefore solderless.
The mod instead concerned the installation of a piezo pickup on the Tune O’ Matic bridge, purchased online and available in three color variants.
To be able to connect the piezo pickup to an amplifier it was necessary to purchase a jack socket capable of simplifying assembly on the body of the guitar thanks to the appropriate length and the presence of a female micro jack suitable for the male jack of the Tune O Matic piezo bridge.
Now the guitar offers three connection possibilities, the classic one which is based on the Epiphon Probuckers, the one offered by the Tune O Matic piezo bridge which returns the sound of an acoustic guitar and using two amplifiers, or an amplifier with two separate inputs, both the tandem modes, you can hear the result in the video.
Due to the rush to carry out the test you will notice that the guitar lacks a setup, in fact the low E string fries, I remedied the inconvenience by then carrying out a complete setup of the guitar using the official Gibson dimensions which satisfied me to the point of having made a video about it which you will find here:
If the original electronics had not betrayed me, I would never have subjected my EKO Les Paul to such a radical intervention, however if you find yourself in the same conditions as me, or if you are in possession of a chinese cheap guitar that does not satisfy you, I hope you can find some useful ideas in the EKO Les Paul PAF upgrade work.
