Smooth groove Am backing track, practice seventh chords.

Backing track:

I created this backing track to be played with these chords, mostly sevenths, AM7 CM7 Gm7 Am7 AM7 CM7 Gm7 Am7 Gmaj7sus2 DM7 Gmaj7sus2 DM7 FM7 G6 A A and the reason is simple:

Seventh chords are like a sonic palette that adds colour and depth to the music.  With their extra note, remember that it is a triad to which a seventh has been added, they create a rich and complex sound that captures the listener’s attention.

We can therefore define the timbre of seventh chords as fascinating due to the way the notes combine, creating an enveloping sound that fills the melody with warmth.  It’s not the ordinary sound of a triad, but something bolder and more captivating.

What’s more, seventh chords are masters at conveying emotion.  They can evoke feelings of nostalgia, melancholy or romance, immersing you in a succession of deep feelings.  They are the perfect soundtrack for a moment of introspection and reflection, when you listen to them you can feel them telling stories, expressing tension and creating a unique atmosphere.

Just think of jazz, blues or soul, musical genres that have made seventh chords their distinctive mark.  I consider them the salt and pepper of music, because they give that special touch that makes you tap your foot and move your body.  In sax solos or piano improvisations, seventh chords shine, giving emotions.

The seventh chord structure is a technical finesse.  With precise interval formulas and variations such as major, minor or dominant seventh chords, each combination of notes produces a different effect.  Yet theory aside, seventh chords are a manifestation of the very soul of music, a perfect way to connect with sound.

All that remains is to let yourself be carried away by the power that these chords release and go and play them.
